Maps & Policies
Our GPS address: 36-28-36N 81-48-49W 2905'
Directions and Advisories
HWY 421 EXCESSIVE CURVES - Hwy. 421 between Bristol and Mountain City—while a federally number highway—-is rather narrow, very curving and getting known as The Striped Snake. It's a great road for motorcyclists. It isn't fun for people driving minivans or sedans. Contrary to GPS, it takes the same amount of time to come to the inn via Damascus, VA or Elizabethton, TN. NOT recommended after dark or in the snow.
NEW Hwy. 91 BYPASS: This new road is NOT in your GPS yet. See our third map below showing our new bypass (not shown on first map below). Traffic is automatically routed onto it when southbound on Hwy. 91 coming from Virginia. When it ends, you must turn LEFT to arrive at the 67-421 intersection, NOT RIGHT as shown on the first map at right. Construction is complete. GPS systems believe this is an empty lot!
HWY 321 WEEKLY ROAD CLOSINGS Hwy. 321 south of Blowing Rock is being widened. Current road closings are as follows (every week):
Monday night Midnight to 5 or 6 a.m.
Tuesdays and Thursdays: noon - 2 pm
Detour is about 70 miles. As an alternate: take I-77 north to 421 west or Hwy. 221 north to 105 and north to Boone.
HWY 421 WIDENING IN BOONE:
Hwy. 421 on the edge (east) of Boone is being widened. No major construction or delays at this time. However, construction workers are present M-F during daytime work hours. Slight delays possible. No easy detour available.
HWY 67 BRIDGE WIDENING: The Butler Bridge
is being repaired. One lane traffic during work days. It is light signal controlled with delays of only 4 minutes.
